Congrats to DFL and the Flying Carpets for a great game!  Enjoy the suspense of this post game write-up by Katie, Duplays Ultimate Frisbee Admin / “Czar”:

Everyone who was there will agree that this final was a great watch, proving the point with these two teams that enjoy a drink (or four) with each other at the weekends, that what happens on field, stays on field! There was tough talking and even tougher playing.

DFL opened the scoring going 2 nil up. The Carpets reacted equaling both points. DFL then took it to 4-2. Again, the Carpets matched the 4 points. The scores were 5 all at the controversial blowing of the half-time whistle (Thank you, Emma). It was obvious in the second half that both teams had managed to get into each other’s heads and also there were tough half time talks, as, for every point scored, the other team matched straight away.

At the end of the 45 minute match the score was 8 all. Duplays’ rules state that there is no limit on extra time, game is to continue until a team wins by 2 points. The same pattern followed, with one team scoring and the opposition upping the game to equalise. The other teams watched on, cheering both teams with a mixture of banter and support, but their patience was fading fast as they could hear The Red Lion calling them for a steak sandwich and a well earned beverage. But, eventually DFL got one up on the Carpets. The next point pulled, a few cuts and short passes later, Adrian’s massive swing connected with John’s awesome catch in the end zone securing DFL’s regaining of the title.

Congrats to “Full Court Press” the Duplays Dubai Netball League Champions! It was wonderful to watch such a close game between Full Court Press and the Tigers last night – both teams displaying such improved netball skills. Well done to all players for the first season of 2009!

One epic battle in the first ever indoor football tournament of this scale. Sign up to play every week the same night against 11 other teams in your group (ie. sign up for Monday and play every Monday night for the next 8 weeks for one hour during the 3-hour time slot).

Why should I sign up first?

• First teams to sign up get choice of evening. If your evening fills up, you are out of luck.
• Pick your jersey first. Each group only has one jersey style so if certain colours don’t match your eyes, get out to one of the four payment locations and select your NikeFive signature kit today. Signing up online doesn’t confirm your spot, payment in the store locations and collecting of kits confirms your spot.

Why do you want to get involved?

• Nike Nike Nike. Get involved in a high profile event with great exposure and great prizes. We will have all star players selected during the course of the event, have a huge final tournament day for top teams, and it will be the talk of the town.
• Participate in the largest tournament ever in this country. Whatever your skill level, get involved. In the end, we play for fun.
• Get your companies involved for exposure. We have organizations from a variety of industries wanting to get involved to compete against other companies in their respective industry.
• Our registration fees are the same – but this time every team that signs up gets 8 team jerseys and shorts. So pay for our normal leagues but as an added bonus be the first to have jerseys from the new NikeFive collection.

Registration is open for teams until Mar.25 and for individuals we close early (Mar.22) to have one open day for individuals to come out and meet their team members.

Sat:  12 teams (Group  A)
Sun: 12 teams (Group B)
Mon: 24 teams (Group C & D)
Tue: 24 teams (Group E & F)
Wed: 24 teams (Group G & H)

Teams must sign up online and pay in stores (details below).

Each team 5-aside, minimum of 7 players. No maximum. Each team receives 8 Nike kits (jersey and shorts) as part of league sign up.
Note: Jersey sizes are pre-determined and cannot be exchanged at the store.  Most, not all, team kits include: 1 Small, 3 Medium, 3 Large, 1 XL for jerseys sizes only. Sizes for shorts may vary.  There are 12 jersey colors available per Group, on a first to sign up and pay at the store basis.  Meaning if you wait too long to sign up online and pay at the store, your preferred jersey color may no longer be available.

League costs 2600 AED per team for 8 weeks (with 9th champions league day) of play. 2-24 minute games on indoor flooring per week. Only non-marking sole shoes permitted. Each team will play on the same evening in 1.5 hour slot (sometimes back-to-back games). MUST indicate preferred timing (EARLY 7:30-9 slot, LATE 9-10:30pm) and we will do our best to accommodate timing for first teams to sign up.

FOR TEAM REGISTRANTS – Sign up your team and enter in team names for all team members. Team members (not team captain) must sign up in this league as an individual 1) Under team info please list your team name, 2) click Pay Offline. In order to view schedules and standings and to be valid in this tournament, you must go through this procedure so teams are set from day 1.

FOR INDIVIDUAL REGISTRANTS – Registration closes one week early. We will have a one-day gathering for all individual sign ups to meet and select other team members. Payment and distribution of kits will happen that day.

PAYMENT (click Pay Offline) – To be done at 1 of 4 locations prior to event. First teams to submit payment at those locations get choice of jerseys (only one colour per group).

While paying for the league both Sun & Sand and GO Sport are offering a 15% discount on all other football/soccer related items purchased ONLY if they are paid for on the same order/receipt.  If you need Indoor football shoes, pick some up in the stores when you pay for the league, and get a 15% discount on the shoes.
